HEROIC beach wardens in Barmouth have won commendations for saving the life of a man, in the same incident in which two teenage boys died.

Following the devastating news that Yahye Omar Mohamed, 14, and Waseem Muflahi, 15, both from Birmingham, had been lost at sea after getting into difficulties on 7 August 2016, it has emerged that a third member of the teenagers’ party might have suffered a similar fate if not for the swift actions of on-duty wardens Osian Williams, 20, Samuel Dangerfield, 18, Joshua Jones, 20, and Jordan Hewlett, 20.

After hearing of three people in distress at 1.40pm, beach officers were quick to the scene to offer assistance, and were able to rescue Mahdi Farah from the waters.

Mr Farah had entered the water to try and save the stricken teenagers and had been left exhausted by his efforts, which caused a threat to his own life.

The four Barmouth beach wardens then used all their years of training to react quickly to save Mr Farah from the choppy surf by pulling him ashore.

Their actions have now been recognised by the Royal Humane Society, with all four wardens set to receive a certificate of commendation from the organisation.
