With all due respect to D A Thomas (Letters, 8 October), as a retired policeman he knows the importance of gathering all evidence before deciding guilt or innocence, and yet the tone of his letter suggests he has made up his mind regarding coronavirus having only accessed mainstream media/propaganda.
There are many lawyers, viral epidemiologists and doctors speaking out online against the draconian, unjustified measures which have been imposed by governments worldwide, eg masks, lockdowns etc.
If the inventor of the PCR test, Kary Mullis, was alive today I’m sure he would be horrified at its misuse to extract false positive results, and the number of death certificates in which coronavirus is mentioned as a contributing factor, would be greatly reduced. Apparently hospital admissions are up too. Are people’s memories so bad that they’ve forgotten this happens every autumn?
Regarding masks, many people find them extremely unhealthy to wear and find they impair breathing (and often vision for those wearing glasses) and communication has been made extremely difficult for those who need to lip-read.
I care as much for my fellow human as anyone but I am not gullible and I have not succumbed to the relentless scaremongering. If someone is fearful of contracting the virus when out and about, then the onus should be on them to wear a mask and gloves and disinfect their hands as often as they wish.
Common sense has gone out of the window, to be replaced by paranoia. The healthy should not be dictated to by hypochondriacs and I have no desire to live in a Stasi police state.
