Madam,
Is it acceptable that eight county councillors have been left in the inenviable situation of making the decision on behalf of around 75,000 constituents that Bodlondeb Care Home will not be a residential home?
There is now a consultation period until 25 September. There are documents available by contacting the council.
I don’t need a consultation document, just common sense, to tell me Bodlondeb should not be closed.
Hywel Dda University Health Board has confirmed it is no longer interested in using Bodlondeb building.
But, won’t Hywel Dda agree with me that one of the three wings which are empty could accommodate in the region of 30 residents to assist with bed blocking.
Recognising that people increasingly want to have their needs met in their own homes, I know of relatives who are carers for fathers, mothers, husbands, and who are exhausted from caring for loved ones for 24 hours a day at home.
At Bodlondeb carers are on duty for 24 hours a day for all their needs, cleanliness, medication, diet, company, activities. Relatives doing this at home depend on support of family, friends, Marie Curie, Cross Roads, HAHAV.
Without this where would they be?
This support is not available every day.
Has Care and Social Service Inspectorate Wales considered the position of relatives in their 70s, 80s and 90s?
How can they manage, when they are exhausted, with no social life and alone.
Even, if a major redevelopment of the building took place, it would probably still not comply with the Regulation and Inspection Care (Wales) Act 2016 due to its restricted location.
How many homes in Wales do comply?
Yours etc,
D A Thomas, Llwyn Yr Eos, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
