Madam,

What a great community!

As most of us woke to the news of the seafront hotel on fire in Aberystwyth on Wednesday, a great community spirit began to work together.

People immediately began asking what can be done to help, what is needed to help those affected by the fire. As the emergency services got on with their frontline roles ensuring everyone’s safety, behind the scenes social workers, the Red Cross, shops and members of the community came together to get what was needed.

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donates to our charity shop in Terrace Road. We were able, on behalf of the community here, to allow what was required to be taken immediately and, because of the financial generosity to us throughout the year, we purchased what was needed following communication with the agencies we were working with.

We are always blown away by the generous hearts and spirits of the people in this town and what took place on Wednesday confirmed once again what we already knew - we live and work in a great community! Diolch yn fawr everyone!

Yours etc,

Claire Durrant (captain), The Salvation Army Aberystwyth Corps.
