The Hub in Penparcau has decided to close its doors after the council urged community centres to “remain vigilant” as Covid cases across the county rise.
Karen Rees Roberts, Penparcau Community Forum Hub manager, said The Hub has decided to close until further notice after coronavirus cases rose “sharply in Ceredigion”.
This is after Ceredigion County Council released a statement encouraging community centres to “remain vigilant” as the county sees an increase in cases.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We ask that those responsible for community venues and events, to consider whether now is the right time to reopen or allow increased activity at your venue.
“This update follows a recent announcement by the local authority to close all council-run leisure facilities as a precautional measure following the increase in positive cases across the county.”
While The Hub has cancelled extra-curricular activities held in the building, they are continuing to “support the community through Penparcau Action Team and various digital programmes”.
The Penparcau Action Team is a “co-ordinated Hub volunteer community group working in support of and in partnership with the Ystwyth Medical Group, Padarn Surgery and St Anne’s Church providing logistical, organised and controlled priority community support” throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement on their website, Karen said: “Under the direction of Ystwyth Medical Group practice manager, we are now delivering a daily support service that targets the most medically vulnerable within the Penparcau community.
“We also support St Anne’s church providing them with a much-needed delivery service to distribute some food supplies.
“A team is dispatched daily from the Penparcau Community Hub in our minibus and we have established a morning, lunchtime and teatime delivery service.
“The main priority must be that of achieving a reliable support system for the community to help counter the coronavirus pandemic.”
