Ron Jones and Gill Howells were second and Dawn Claxton and Sally Davies were third.
Twelve tricks in Hearts were available on Board 17 with only 21 points between the two hands as a result of a solid club suit, a void and a singleton. Conversely, 7 No Trumps on Board 18 failed despite having 36 out of the 40 honour points when spades don’t break.
Winners on 2 August were Mike Jones and Dai Hayes, with Virginia Willey and Valerie Wylie second and Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells third.
Keith and Gill bid 6 Hearts on Boards 23 and 26, while Virginia and Valerie converted the suit slam on Board 23 to 6 No Trumps.

Cardis and Cockneys Party
ON Saturday, 11 August, the Aberaeron Festival committee is holding a party to welcome the Welsh pony and cob enthusiasts who are travelling from London and the home counties with their dairy and trade floats to take part in a special display and pageant at this year’s Aberaeron Festival of Welsh Ponies and Cobs.
Taking place at the memorial hall from 7.30pm, the live music has been chosen to reflect the theme of this year’s Festival - ‘Bringing the Welsh Cob Home’.
The Rockney Rebels play a mixture of Cockney favourites including Chas and Dave hits and local Folk duo Brenig provide the Cardi musical element of the evening.
There is also an auction of promises and raffle with all proceeds going to four local causes: Newquay Lifeboat Station, Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron, Aberaeron Memorial Hall and Aberaeron branch of Cancer Research UK.
Guaranteed to be a lively foot-tapping evening of live entertainment.
Tickets are £15 and are available from Gwisgo Bookworm, 8 Alban Square.
