Dine in the Dark
DINERS were invited to switch off the lights and switch on their senses at an event in The Cellar restaurant.
Dine in the Dark was organised by Guide Dogs’ Ceredigion group to give people an unforgettable dining experience, plus a taste of the challenges facing people with sight loss.
The lights were dimmed for the sell-out event on Friday, 9 November and diners were invited to put on blindfolds before tucking into a four-course meal, all of which could be eaten with either fingers or cutlery.
The event, which also featured a prize quiz, raised £733.23 for Guide Dogs Cymru.
Allison Charles, community fundraiser for Guide Dogs Cymru, said: “Our Dine in the Dark events show us how much we take simple things for granted, like going to a restaurant.
“For people with visual impairments, even eating a meal can be hard.
“Restaurant staff said it was great to learn and educate themselves on how to serve people who are blind or partially sighted.”
Guide Dogs’ Ceredigion group is holding another Dine in the Dark event at TyGlyn, Ciliau Aeron, at 7pm on Saturday, 12 January.

Chorale
THE music-lovers of mid Ceredigion will be pleased to know that the Aberaeron Chorale, which draws its members from as far afield as Lampeter and Cardigan, will be performing the Fauré Requiem and Four Spirituals from Tippett’s A Child of Our Time, with arias and choruses from West Side Story and Les Misérables.
As has become a welcome tradition by now, the choir is fortunate enough to be performing with six well-known musicians: Caryl Glyn, Buddug Verona James, Huw Rhys-Evans, Richard Morris, Charles Matthews, organist of St Catharine’s, Chipping Campden, and the cellist Kathryn Price, who will also conduct the choir. The choir is grateful to Kathryn and to Dorothy Wilson for travelling a considerable distance each week for rehearsals.
The concert will be held at Holy Trinity Church, on Saturday, 1 December, at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available from the Memorial Hall, from choir members, or at the door on the night of the concert.
