Bridge club
WINNERS on 17 October were Dai Hayes and Ron Jones, with Jen Harris and Ted Morgan second and Dylan Raw-Rees and Mike Fellows third.
Board 3 was a very distributional hand. South’s opening bids show a strong hand in Clubs, with North South able to make 11 tricks in the suit. But following an overcall in Spades by West and strong support from his partner sitting East, this pair can make 11 tricks in Spades.
Wednesday’s afternoon session for pmprovers on 23 October will deal with the Stayman convention with practical examples of its use and misuse. All welcome.
Aberaeron Bridge Club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.40pm.
Duplicate Bridge sessions for improvers continues on Wednesday afternoons starting at 1pm.

Forum on scams and frauds
CEREDIGION WI are hosting an event at the memorial hall on Thursday, 24 October, between 10am and 1.30pm.
Scams and frauds via emails, phone calls, letters or knocking on doors seem to be getting more and more frequent, and are worrying a lot of people, particularly the older or vulnerable.
A forum of speakers from Trading Standards, Citizens Advice, TSB and Mind (and possibly Dyfed-Powys police) will give presentations on how to avoid being scammed or defrauded, what to do in the event of an incident and how, apart from the financial aspects, it can cause extreme worry and stress and how to deal with that.
Age Cymru will also be attending, and the morning will begin with a few words from County Councillor Elizabeth Evans.
This event is open to the public £2 entry fee.
Photographic competition
A FRONT cover photographic competition for the 2020 Town Brochure is now open.
The title is ‘Aspects of Aberaeron’, and entries are required to be colour photographs in portrait (not landscape) format.
Any entries must be sent to the memorial hall at any time, and the closing date is 1 December.
The winner will be announced at the carols evening on 11 December.

Aeron Valley Railway Society
THE annual general meeting of the society was held on 16 October at the British Legion Hall.
After the formal proceedings of the evening were finished the members were able to enjoy an excellent buffet supper while some vintage footage of railways, mostly narrow gauge, was being screened.
It was agreed that the society had had a good year with plenty of interesting speakers and a most successful exhibition, and the programme for the forthcoming year is shaping up nicely.
The November meeting is scheduled to be an illustrated talk on the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) by Denis Bates.
Denis has a huge wealth of movie and still pictures to draw on and we can be sure that his talk will be as informative as it will be interesting.
It will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 20 November, at the Royal British Legion Hall.
As always, members and visitors will be most welcome.
The associate group of “0” gauge modellers is holding an exhibition at Bronwydd Arms village hall near Carmarthen on 2 November and all who are interested in model railways are invited.
The society is open to anyone who is interested in railways and associated transport topics; you are invited to contact Terry Davis on 01974 241653 or Les Mowbray on 01239 841346 for further information on future events and about the society.
