Rotary Interact Club
FOR the past week, the Rotary Interact Club in Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron has been raising money for local charities and school departments. Each day, a different event was organised to fundraise.
On Monday, the Rotary Interact Club had put together a cake sale that took place at break time in school; they were selling all sorts of homemade cakes. Each cake was sold for 50p and a total of £45 was raised. This was given to the Duke of Edinburgh department within the school to buy supplies such as tents for upcoming expeditions.
Tuesday was spent running a quiz in school at dinner time. Teams of two to four were allowed to enter with and entrance fee of £1. The quiz had four rounds of five questions and each round tested your geography, history, literature or general knowledge. The quiz was successful and raised £30 for Canolfan y Môr, the autistic unit located on the School Campus.
On Wednesday, the Rotary Interact Club visited Skanda Vale Hospice, near Llandysul. Their intentions were to create a link between the school and hospice so they can volunteer and donate in the future. They also volunteered to help clear some space in the garden and tidy up the rooms.
As they had a tour around the Hospice, you could clearly feel a sense of tranquillity, which is fitting for the Hospice and people who go there for respite. It is completely volunteer lead and is a model example for other Hospices. Although this hospice has a Hinduism background, Brother Francis told us that ‘this hospice aims to bring people of all faith to a place of harmony’.
The Rotary Club, on Thursday, had arranged to hold a quiz night at the Yacht Club in Aberaeron. The quiz was successful at raising £180 for a first response vehicle for the local area. Coincidentally, the team that won the quiz was the first response team and auctioned off their prize for an extra £25. A member of the Aberaeron Town Improvements Committee, Huw Evans, kindly made a speech telling us why a new vehicle is needed.
Friday was spent washing cars in the bus bay of the school campus; raising money for DASH. Members of the Rotary Interact Club spent their day washing the cars of school staff and the public. Altogether, £160 was raised.
Overall, the Rotary Interact Club has been successful in raising money for charities and is looking forward to fundraising for local charities in the near future.
