This week’s meeting of Aberystwyth Rotary Club saw the change over of the club president at the start of the new Rotary year.
Retiring president Dr John Harries inducted incoming president Derek Whiting and reviewed the past year.
He thanked the committee chairs for their sterling work during the year and gave special thanks to Richard Morgan, treasurer and Michael Deaville, secretary, who were retiring after five years in post and to Huw Spencer Lloyd who had acted as club correspondent for 19 years, who was also retiring.
The incoming committee chairs reported on their proposed programmes for 2016-17. Assistant Governor Carol Ramada of the Lampeter Club commented on the excellence of the plans and wished the club every success with the newly installed club president of Aber Rotary.

OUR annual picnic trip to the Elan valley on Wednesday, 29 June, was as it had been in the previous years... raining! And not the usual type, horizontal rain along with the wind, so we arrived safe after picking up some members who were rather damp and sat in the coach and had a super meal supplied by Mr Lees of the Rheidol Cafe.
So plentiful was the selection that many went home with goodie bags for their tea. After a cuppa and comfort break
and the rain eased off, we set off over the hills via Ponterwyd and the sun came out. Only met a few cars on the narrow roads and arrived back in Aberystwyth in the sun. We can only hope that next year’s picnic outing will be dry.
The July lunch is on 13 July at Gogerddan Arms near Aberporth. Plascrug

ON Wednesday, 29 June, members travelled to Cardigan Castle. On arrival the members enjoyed a delicious lunch in the castle restaurant. At 1.30pm there was a guided tour of the castle and grounds.
Cardigan castle is a castle overlooking the River Teifi in Cardigan, Wales. It is a Grade I-listed building.
The castle dates from the late 11th century, though it was rebuilt in 1244. Castle Green House was built inside the castle walls in the early 1800’s. After falling into disrepair, the castle was restored in the early 2000’s and opened to the public in 2015.
It is owned by Ceredigion County Council and now includes a heritage centre, restaurant, open air facilities and offers bed and breakfast and self catering accommodation.
The tour finished at around 3pm, and some of the members visited the town until our departure time of 4pm. The members thanked Cllr Mair Benjamin for organising the enjoyable trip.
On 30 August we are holding a tea party at St Pauls, Aberystwyth. Invite for all between 2pm and 4pm. There will also be a speaker on jam making.
