Cymdeithas yr Aelwyd

DAETH tymor arall i ben nos Wener, 9 Mawrth, pryd y cynhaliwyd y cyfarfod blynyddol gyda’r llywydd anrhydeddus, Hefin Jones, yn y gadair.

Ar ôl derbyn adroddiadau’r llywydd, Menna Evans, a’r trysorydd, Lona Jones, etholwyd swyddogion am y flwyddyn 2018-19, sef llywydd – Delyth Evans, is- lywydd – Gwynfor Jones, ysgrifennydd – Menna Evans, a thrysorydd – Lona Jones.

Penderfynwyd arbrofi y tymor nesaf trwy gynnal rhai cyfarfodydd ganol gaeaf yn y prynhawn yn hytrach nag am 7yh, a gobeithir y bydd hyn yn galluogi rhagor o aelodau i fynychu’r cyfarfodydd.

Daeth y noson i ben gyda ’Fy hoff arwr/arwres’ dan ofal Lional Madden.

Oherwydd cyfyngiad amser dim ond Hefin Jones gafodd y cyfle i siarad, a’i ddewis ef oedd y chwaraewr rygbi, Sam Warburton, cyn ddisgybl i Delyth, merch Hefin, yng Nghaerdydd.

Daeth mis Mawrth mewn fel llew a’n gorfodi i ohirio ein dathliad Gwyl Dewi.

Aildrefnwyd hyn ar gyfer nos Wener, 23 Mawrth, yn Llety Parc a’r wraig wadd fydd Linda Tomos, y llyfrgellydd cenedlaethol. Os oes yna unrhyw aelodau neu gyfeillion am ymuno â ni cysylltwch â’n ysgrifennydd, Menna Evans, mor fuan â phosib.

Aberystwyth and District Floral Society

ON TUESDAY, 20 February, club president Donald Morgan welcomed everyone present in the Llanfarian Village hall and introduced club committee member Glenys Morgan as the invited workshop demonstrator.

Her workshop comprised the use of midelino sticks.

She showed that if you soaked the midelino sticks they would become pliable and could be transformed into various shapes and in the case of the workshop – plaited. Her design was aimed at all levels of floral arrangers from absolute beginners to those with a little more experience.

There was no members’ competition as everyone followed Glenys’ design instructions to create entirely different arrangements due to individual choice of midelino sticks to match or contrast with their choice of flowers.

The vote of thanks was given by Christine Hughes who said that it had been an enjoyable and instructive evening and hoped that Glenys would be willing to hold another workshop in the future.

200 Club Draw results for February were as follows: 1. £20, Ella, Milly & Ruby Worthington; 2. £10, Rhydian Morgan; 3. £5, Nel Williams.

Donald Morgan also reported that he and Jayne Solomon would be representing NAFAS – Area Mercia and north Wales at the RHS London Orchid Show, on 6 and 7 April.

The next meeting will be again in the Llanfarian Village Hall on 20 March when the demonstrator will be Jane Pugh with her interpretation of ‘A Special Place’ in flowers.

The members competition title is Mellow Yellow.

50+ Forum

ABERYSTWYTH 50+ Forum was established to give people of 50 and over a strong voice in the community on issues that affect their well being.

Care in the later years of life is one of those issues so, in February, Forum members went to look at the two Extra-care Schemes in Cardigan and Crymych.

Also known as Homes for Life, the schemes provide a form of sheltered accommodation where people live in their own flats but with a main meal provided, if required, in a communal dining room.

On-site carers are available to help with personal care when necessary.

Other facilities such as sitting rooms, games rooms, libraries and gardens provide opportunities for activities and socialising.

After a brief description of the scheme by one of the staff in Cardigan, Forum members enjoyed an excellent lunch in the residents’ dining room.

In Crymych, they were given a tour of the building and were spontaneously invited into one of the flats by the couple living there.
