Bowls
April was not as kind weatherwise this season. However, towards the end of the month, it changed direction and on 21 April gave us a lovely sunny day for the men’s Round Robin match which this year was won by Bryan Gatehouse, and the runner-up was Mick ‘Williams.
On 28 April, another good weather day, the Ladies Round Robin Trophy, saw a victory for Pam Payton, and on this occasion, the runner-up was Anne Vaughan-Jones.
The following month proved to be a much better prospect with the weather improving almost daily, and on 5 May, Mick Williams was the winner of the Roy Morton Shield, closely followed by Lorraine Viney as runner-up.
On 19 May, Margaret Williams, claimed victory for the Cyril Hudson Cup, and the club president Vic Tritton was a worthy second.
The Men’s Doubles trophy this year on 26 May, was won by the captain David Evans, and president Vic Tritton, once again runner-up.
Pam Payton was again successful, when on 2 June, she took the Bill Gaskelll Centenary Shield, with Vic Tritton in second place.
The resident rabbit family appear to have found pastures new and finally left their playground to club members to use as a play area, which is of course, its intended purpose.
The green is in tip top condition, thanks to the club members who work very hard on the green’s condition throughout the season, with excellent results. Members are grateful for these stalwart workers’ efforts on their behalf.
During the month of May the club was pleased to have both the WI ladies and the Dolgellau Rotary Club use the facilities to enjoy an evening of bowling competition.
Bell-ringers
Barmouth and Dolgellau bell-ringers have won the North Wales Association Inter-Branch change shield, bell-ringing competition.
Winners of the Call Change Shield were Dolgellau/Barmouth with 81 faults. In second place were Montgomery scratch band with 87 faults, and in third place, Halkyn with 144 faults
Congratulations were given to everyone who took part and massive thanks to everyone who organised the day as well as to the judges Lorraine and Alan Trebble.
The ringers were: Will Bailey, Barmouth; Trevor Marchbank, Dolgellau; Carol Marchbank, Dolgellau; Peter Morgan, Dolgellau; Steve Hassan, Barmouth; and Paula Thompson, Barmouth.
