THE 22nd annual match of the Netta Irvine Rose Bowl Ladies Open Competition was hosted by Barmouth WI on Saturday, 4 August.
It was a warm sunny day, ideal for players and spectators.
Sixteen ladies entered the competition and the matches were efficiently organised, as usual, by Ifor Evans with help from several of the bowling club men.
The ladies were split into four groups and the winners of each went through to the semi-finals.
Ronnie Roberts played against Mari O’Rourke and Anita Gatehouse against Pauline Owen, with Mari and Pauline going through to the final.
The final was very exciting with each contestant equally matched and ended in a draw.
An extra end had to be played and Mari won by one point.
Before the presentation of the trophies by Pam Payton and Lynn Norton, Sheila Davies spoke about Netta and why this annual match began in her memory.
Ronnie was delighted to receive ‘The best of the rest’ trophy.
In true WI tradition, the players, helpers and supporters were given a splendid tea.
Pam thanked the tea ladies, Janet Davies, Ann Williams, Liz Roberts and Val Vine.
The men were also thanked for helping all afternoon.
The raffle was drawn with several prizes.
A successful and enjoyable day.
