RNLI gift

WHEN Alan Jones of Bridgnorth celebrated his 60th birthday, he asked friends not to buy him presents, but preferred them to donate to his favourite charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Alan has been holidaying in the Barmouth area since he was a boy when he and his family would make many visits to Barmouth lifeboat station. When he later went on to buy a boat himself he continued to support the RNLI, grateful for its reassuring presence when he was at sea.

At his recent birthday party, Alan was delighted that donations from his friends raised £400. Keen to see the new Shannon lifeboat in action, Alan and his wife Ros visited Barmouth Lifeboat Station on 24 March to see the volunteer crew launch on exercise.

Alan said: “It was great to be able to raise money for such a good cause and we are delighted to be able to present a cheque for £400 to help Barmouth volunteers save more lives at sea.”
