AFTER the minutes were read and approved, Janet reported on the recent quiz at the rugby club in Dolgellau.

Unfortunately, none of the members won but everyone had an enjoyable evening.

Pam reported that she was very proud of Angie because she had won the darts singles competition at Bala Golf Club even though she is unwell.

Situated on the northern side of the Dwyryd River at Pont Briwet is a decommissioned explosive works, now a nature reserve and this is where a group of the ladies visited for their recent ramble. Carol said they travelled from Barmouth by train and had a very enjoyable day out enjoying the beautiful scenery, the wildlife and of course a picnic.

Val gave an account of her recent visit to the All Wales Conference in Newport. She was very impressed with the speakers, especially Kate Humble. There was also a speaker telling the story of the Atlantic Ladies all female rowing team.

A touring show will be performing this story at The Dragon Theatre in May.

The newsletter was read and items of interest were noted. Mention was made of the NFWI in Bournemouth on 5 June and the Resolutions meeting in Llanelltyd Village Hall on 2 May.

Two members have volunteered to make dishes for the taster evening at the Rugby Club, Dolgellau on 21 May and arrangements for attending the Spring Council on 30 April were finalised.

Christine is arranging for the next dining out venue to be the Chinese Restaurant in Barmouth on Friday, 10 May.

After the business matters were concluded, Mari introduced the speaker Anna Hicks, a local lady who has a business called Celtic Treasure.

Anna began her talk by saying that she started making jewellery by accident when she was only 16 years old, working with Tony Lewis in Dolgellau. At the age of 21 she opened her own shop, making and selling her own gold and silver jewellery. She started working with Celtic patterns and specialises in fine piercing work but also enjoys making modern bold designs as well.

The raffle was won by Geinor, the flowers by Pat Bunce and the competition by Joan Probert.

Mari thanked the hostesses Joan, Liz and Ann.

The speaker at the next meeting on Wednesday, 22 May is Jack Brooks. The subject of his talk, ‘Barmouth High Street against the tide’.
