MEMBERS were welcomed by Mari O’Rourke to the meeting on Wednesday, 26 June.
Meirion was sung to the accompaniment of Blodwen Comerford on piano.
The guest speaker was Sandy Andrews from Aberdyfi, who gave a clear explanation and demonstration of felt making. Her enthusiasm was infectious and inspired members to have a go at home.
Sandy had brought along examples of her work, which included cushions, scarves, specs cases, cards and bird nesting house. She was happy to answer any questions and was thanked by Pam Payton.
Pam then read the minutes of the last meeting and reported on the county flat green bowling competition, which she and Pauline Owen had won; the interfederation darts competition, which was won by Gwynedd Caernarfon; and the ramble to the Panorama Walk.
Barbara gave a report on the summer outing on 19 June.
A total of 19 members had thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the British Ironworks in Oswestry. There were many sculptures on display and some of the members had hired a buggy to go around the site.
One of the most impressive sculptures was the knife angel; at least 20 foot tall and made from knives which had been collected or confiscated by the police. Another sculpture was of a gorilla made from spoons and a dragon made from bicycle chains.
A visit was made to Mary Jones World in Bala in the afternoon, which members found to be very interesting and informative.
The county newsletter was read by Janet. Forthcoming events include the County Treasure Hunt in Barmouth on 17 July, the Netta Bowling competition on 3 August and the County Show on 28 August.
Mari thanked the tea hostesses, Rose Morris, Val Vine and Pat Millward, and the raffle was won by Pam Payton.
The monthly competition was for a dementia fidget band. There were six entries which were judged by Sandy. Mari’s was first and Janet’s second.
