Nursery

CHILDREN at the Oasis Nursery got the chance to get up close with their heroes recently.

The pre-school children had a special visit at their nursery from members of the emergency services to explain a little about their jobs.

Claire Tyrrell, manager of Oasis nursery, explained: “We arranged for some very special people to visit the nursery and speak to the children about their jobs.

“These have included a visit from Julie Jones, an emergency medical technician, and Glyn Jones, a local harbour master and first responder.

“The children were showed some basic first aid and got to explore the ambulance!

“We also visited Barmouth lifeboat station and Williams Vets in Barmouth.

“We have had a visit from Welephant, the Fire Service mascot, who took us to the fire station where we met Ricky Morris and Rob Triggs, two local fire fighters.

“The children were spoken to about their job and the importance of fire safety, and also got to practice using the hose!

“Each child received a goody bag from the Fire Service and an individual photo with Welephant to take home.

“The children have truly enjoyed their Real Life Heroes week and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the local community who helped give the children such a fantastic experience.”

Volunteers needed

Y Not Drop-in is looking for volunteers to run their twice weekly sessions on Mondays and Thursdays, 10am until 2pm. It has been going for a number of years and is the only place where socially isolated people get a welcome and a friendly chat over tea and coffee.
