THE September meeting began with the singing of Meirion.
After the apologies were given, birthday wishes were given to Blodwen, Rose, Ann W, Malan, Pauline R and Geraldine.
Pam read the minutes, which were signed as correct.
It was reported that Liz, Jeanette, Carol, Pam, Rose, Joan H and Mari were very successful in the competitions at the County Show.
Dining out on 13 September was enjoyed by all 13 ladies present.
Janet read the newsletter and all important dates were noted.
Carol spoke about the planned ramble on 16 October.
Daryl James, the speaker, needed no introduction as most of the ladies present knew him from when he was a young boy or through the different occupations he has had and his ongoing work with the RNLI. The subject of his talk was welding and he began by telling the group about how he began welding and why and that he is selftaught. It all began in 2002 with a 1965 Series 2 Land Rover.
Daryl showed them pieces of welding equipment that he had brought and he explained all about MIG, Stick and Tig welding. He told them about the dangers involved and showed us all the safety equipment that must be worn.
They then saw photos of some of the items he had made for customers stressing that every piece that he makes is unique. Beautiful craftsmanship was to be seen in gates, stools, tables and many more items created in his workshop.
On stage he had examples of work he has made from horseshoes and other pieces of metal, again superb handiwork and lots of creative ideas.
Most of his work is commissioned but items like the objects he brought to the meeting can be bought at Crafts North Wales in Porthmadog.
The president thanked the refreshment hostesses, Carol, Mary and Jacqui.
The next meeting is on 23 October at 7pm in the Arts Room at the Dragon Theatre. The speaker will be Beth Bailey. All welcome.
