WI
THE president, Jacqui Puddle, welcomed members to the meeting on 26 October. Meirion was sung to the accompaniment of Blodwen Comerford on piano.The group is supporting the ‘Not in my Name’ campaign, and Jacqui explained that it is to encourage men to sign a pledge that they will not commit or condone violence against women. Men are asked to wear a white ribbon, and everyone is asked to place a candle in their window on 25 November to show their support. Forthcoming events include; 7 November, Scrabble; 8 November, craft with Jean Westerman; 11 November, dining out at the Captain’s Table; 1 December, Christmas event at Plas Tan-y-bwlch; 2 December, carol service in Christchurch and 14 December, Christmas dinner at Hendre Coed. Last month, Darryl Edwards had given members a demonstration of wood turning and amazingly produced two items in a short time. He had several items of his work on display including bowls, platters and pens, some of which had been made from wood from Barmouth Bridge. This month members were again treated to a craft demonstration with Annette Evans, who explained and showed how stained glass and copper foil glass ornaments and jewellery were made. Pauline Roberts and Pam Payton helped with the demonstration and Annette had several of her beautiful items on display. She very kindly donated a piece of her work to raffle, which was won by Val Vine. Janet Davies, Angela Jones and Mary Smallwood provided delicious refreshments. The raffle was won by Vicky Pell and the flowers by Alma Havercroft. This month’s competition was for a hand-made Christmas tree decoration which was won by Mari O’Rourke, with Pam Payton second, next meeting will be the AGM on 23 November.
U3ATHE monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, 9 November in the Arts Room at the Dragon Theatre. The meeting will begin at 1.30pm with refreshments followed by the speaker at 2pm.Rhiannon Evans will be talking about the book Joyce’s War, which was written by her mother during the Second World War.Joyce’s War: The Second World War Journal of a Queen Alexandra Nurse is a story of adventure, bravery, friendship, homesickness and wartime romance.This promises to be a very interesting afternoon. All are welcome.
Royal British Legion
THE branch has raised over £5,100 as part of the National Poppy Appeal for 2015/16 covering Penrhyndeudraeth to Barmouth. This is an amazing total, and the branch would like to thank all the shops who hosted collecting boxes, all of the collectors, and all of those who gave their time helping to achieve such a magnificent total. Thank you also goes to those who helped through their donations.The Barmouth Branch AGM will be held at the RAOB Club at 7pm on Monday, 7 November. All members are cordially invited to attend.
