Community carols

A COMMUNITY carol concert will be held at St John’s featuring Harlech Silver Band, ‘Singin Wimin’ and Ysgol y Traeth on 12 December starting at 6pm.Everyone is invited to attend and take part. There will be refreshments to follow.

Angel adventure trail

ON 19 December you will be able to take part in the Angel Adventure Trail, pick up your clues sheet at St David’s Church from 3.45pm and hunt the angels on route to St John’s in shops and stalls throughout the town. Also on the same day at St John’s there will be an indoor Christmas market. The whole family is invited to enjoy a festive evening out. There will be fabulous, unique gifts crafted by people from across the area, live music, hot food and mulled drinks, free kids’ entertainer, activities and crafts, to take home or add to the angel festival. Community fun night

On Thursday, 8 December the event begins at 5.45pm on Talbot square when church bells will ring and carols will be sung. Then at 6pm the Christmas lights will be turned on. Santa’s Grotto will open at 6.45pm at the hotel. Other thrills will be taster sessions with Batala Bermo, family treasure hunt starting at Luvit’s, a harpist playing in pieces for places, face painting plus mulled wine and cocktails from locations on the High street.

Mawddach Masons

THE Mawddach Lodge Freemasons held a very successful Christmas fund-raising and social event at Min y Môr on 3 December. An excellent meal was complemented with live music, dancing and a conjurer. Money was raised with a raffle and name the teddy game, proceeds of which go to local and national charities.

A CHRISTMAS fair has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.The Hendre Coed Caravan Park would like to thank Father Christmas and his elves, Steve and the alpacas, all the stall holders, Ysgol y Traeth’s exceptional choir and everyone that attended the Christmas fair which raise £320 for the Air Ambulance and £320 for Alzheimer’s.

Ardudwy branch Labour party

THE first official meeting took place in Barmouth on Tuesday. The following officers were elected: chair, Martin Wright; vice-chair, Elaine Evans; secretary, Kath Aikman; treasurer: Pete Leyden; press officer, Rosy Berry. (all pictured). After the formal business, members drank a toast to celebrate the formation of the new branch.It was reported that the branch would provide a food bank collection point in the foyer of Coleg Harlech to coincide with Theatr Ardudwy’s showing of the Ken Loach films during the first week of December. Some members would also hand out leaflets after the film. The branch agreed to support the campaign to keep guards on the trains. It was felt that the presence of the guard was essential to all travellers, especially the disabled.

Jean Thomas reported that she was hopeful that there would be a drop-in session in Ardudwy as part of the current Gwynedd consultation, following her contact with a local councillor. The branch will also be monitoring proposed plans for small nuclear reactors at Trawsfynydd. Members present felt that we should be investing in renewable energy rather than nuclear.
