JACQUI, the president, welcomed both members and visitors to the first meeting after the summer break.

Jacqui informed the members of the death of Iris Nuttall after a short illness.

The minutes of the July meeting were read and signed.

The county letter was read and dates and events were noted.

Barmouth WI won the Crown Green bowls, Meirionnydd Federation won the inter federation Crown Green bowls and Pam Payton won the Netta Irvine cup bowling competition.

The visit to the archives in Aberystwyth is now on 13 October.

Dining out evening at the Royal Ship hotel was enjoyed by several members and the next Dining out will be on 10 November at the Captain’s Table.

There will be a sale of craft items at the November meeting.

The autumn Ramble will be on 28 October.

Angie Jones won the raffle and Joan Probert won the flowers.

The hostesses were thanked for the lovely refreshments.

The speaker was Trevor Roberts, whose topic was ‘Barmouth Bridge’.

The bridge or viaduct to give it its correct name is 150 years old this year and is now grade 2 listed and becomes part of Cadw.

It is the longest wooden viaduct and the oldest in the UK.

Trevor talked about the maintainence of the viaduct over the years and showed some slides and photographs pertaining to the some of the problems through the years.

It is inspected every week and when Trevor worked for the railway he had to walk the bridge to inspect it.

There will be various events held over the weekend of 14/15 October including an exhibition in the leisure centre including narrow gauge and model railways.

The Buffs will hold a Victorian tea party at 11am on Saturday.

The Batala band will be hopefully playing at 8pm around the harbour.

There will be a laser and fireworks display from the viaduct.

The theatre will show the film Ghost Train on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.

The next meeting will be on 25 October.
