The meeting began with the president, Jacqui Puddle, welcoming everyone present. A special welcome was given to two new members and the Revs Mary and George Bolt and their friend Richard Withers.

Then followed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Jinny Jeffs who has sadly passed away.

There was very little business to deal with this month, apart from talking about the Urban tree project, the visit to Anglesey, future sports meetings and the fashion show.

Jacqui then introduced the speaker, Rev Mary Bolt. Her talk was titled ‘Gardens’ so she began by telling when her interest in gardening began.

Over the years she has lived abroad and moved around the UK always growing wonderful plants and creating beautiful gardens with her husband.

When Mary and her husband moved to Llanfachreth, they knew that it would take a lot of time and hard work to create the garden they wanted. There was a huge amount of bramble and bracken to clear but they eventually cleared the land and were able to plan their garden.

As members of The National Gardens Scheme, they decided that they would open their garden to the public in memory of their eldest son who had died from cancer.

Theirs is a true cottage garden and members were able to see for the product of their planning, hard work and patience when they were shown a film taken throughout the seasons.

The cottage Ty Capel Ffrwd is in a picturesque setting with the backdrop of the mountains, a babbling stream flowing through the garden, a 10ft waterfall, a profusion of plants and trees and a woodland carpet of bluebells.

Throughout the year there is an abundance of colour, it is continually growing and evolving and there is constant movement with many feathered friends and butterflies returning each year. A beautiful garden and an evening enjoyed by all present.

Jacqui thanked the hostesses Angie, Gill and Pauline for their delicious cakes. The competition was won by Janet, the flowers by Carol and the raffle was won by Jacqui.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, 23 May at 7pm in the Arts Room at The Dragon Theatre. The speaker will be Kirstie Lumsdon talking about Kilimanjaro. All welcome.

Merched y Wawr

CAFWYD cwmni dysgwyr yr ardal mewn noson ddifyr yn ddiweddar yn Stafell y Celfyddydau, Theatr y Ddraig. Trefnwyd y noson gan Pam sy’n ddysgwraig y flwyddyn ei hun ac yn ein cynrychioli ar y pwyllgor Iaith a Gofal.

Cyn i’r dysgwyr gyrraedd buom yn trafod materion y gangen ac anfonwyd ein cofion cynhesaf at Megan. Hefyd anfonwyd ein cydymdeimlad at deulu y diweddar Beti Trem y Don fel fyddai pawb yn Y Bermo yn ei hadnabod. Roedd Beti ymhlith yr aelodau cyntaf i ymuno pan sefydlwyd ein cangen.

Croesawyd ein ymwelwyr gan Llewela ac yna buom yn chwarae dominoes ac yna gêm ddifyr iawn arall sef creu stori o nifer o frawddegau amrywiol. Bu llawer o chwerthin a sgwrsio cyn amser panad pan dynnwyd y raffl.

Diolchodd Llewela i bawb am ddod ac yn arbennig i Pam am ei threfniadau trylwyr.

Bydd ein cyfarfod nesaf ar 15 Mai pan fydd Siân Lea o Ddolgellau yn dod atom i ddangos sleidiau o’i gardd.

Croeso cynnes i unrhyw un ymuno â ni.
