THE latest community news from Blaenau Ffestiniog
History Society
THE last event this spring for the Bro Ffestiniog History Society was a visit to Y Lasynys Fawr, near Harlech.
This house was the home of the celbrated Ellis Wynne.
In those days (1500s), the estuary reached much nearer the house.
After many centuries of occupation, the owners moved to a new house.
After falling into disrepair, Y Lasynys Fawr was renovated about 20 years ago, taking eight years of work.
The guides, Gerallt and Elfed, gave a wealth of information on the house and renovation.
There are two items of furniture that have survived the centuries, and St Fagan’s Museum have lent some furniture of the original period (Y Lasynys Fawr is open on Thursday and Friday afternoons in the summer).
The group finished the evening with an excellent meal at The Grapes, Maentwrog.
The autumn lectures start on Thursday, 13 September, at 7.30pm, in the Ganolfan, Wynne Road.
The first speaker will be Michael Freeman, who will talk about Welsh Costumes (programmes will be available nearer the time, from Iris at Eifion Stores).
