Golden Wedding

Celebrating their golden wedding anniversary last Friday were Alex and Marian Campbell of 16 Tai Gelli.

Gallery

The Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition of watercolours by Falcon Hildred under the heading of ‘Heritage and Loss’ and from 26 June there will also be an exhibition of old books and documents from the Record Office.

Musician

Ysgol y Moelwyn’s annual Musician of the Year competition was held last Wednesday evening and saw a total of 14 competitors in 11 acts taking part.

Adjudicators Heledd Williams and Huw Llywelyn had the tough choice of who was to win and they went for soloist Hanna Evans; with Yasmin Jones and Abi Lewis in joint second; and duets Elain Iorwerth and Swyn Huws and trio Awen Roberts, Chelsea Jones and Mabbi Trappe join third.

As is the norm the event was kindly sponsored by the Moelwyn Male Choir.

Nomination

The Town Council has granted Eleri Evans requested permission for a member of the Welsh Slate World Heritage Site Nomination project team to discuss the nomination with them and this will take place this month.

Choir

On Friday evening the Moelwyn Choir conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones were in concert at Betws y Coed with junior soloists Awel Jones and Tomos Heddwyn Griffiths; the compere was Gareth Griffiths.

They were back there again on Saturday evening for the choir’s annual dinner.

Clwb Cerdded

Ar ôl penwythnos yn ardal Bannau Brycheiniog bydd aelodau Clwb Cerdded Stiniog yn cerdded rhan dau o Lwybr Llechi Eryri y dydd Sul yma a gofynnir iddynt fod ger Ty Gorsaf am 9yb. Mae esgidiau cryf, dillad addas a phecyn o fwyd yn hanfodol ar gyfer y daith.

Library

There are a variety of events being held at the library before the end of the month.

This Friday there will be board games for adults from 3.30pm till 4.30pm. Next Wednesday there will be four events from colouring for relaxation for an hour from 10.30am; an epilepsy information stand from 10am till 1pm; and also help with tablet and computers and a story session for an hour from 1.30pm.

Clwb Merched

BROcast

A new scheme is under way namely BROcast which is a community broadcasting media in the Bro Ffestiniog area which includes Tanygrisiau, Manod, Blaenau and Llan Ffestiniog, Trawsfynydd, Gellilydan, Maentwrog, Penrhyndeudraeth, Llanfrothen and Croesor.

The aim will be to broadcast short films about topics that are of interest in the area, to promote the vale and look at the work of individuals, societies, circle organisations with community being at its heart by filming and producing videos for the media.

A meeting is to be held by them with the town council next month to discuss this scheme.

Siop Siarad

The next meeting of Siop Siarad the social group for Welsh speakers and learners will be at 11am at the Bridge Cafe this Saturday. All are welcomed to come along and join in the informal gathering over a coffee and cake.

Blaenau in Bloom

The closing date for this year’s Blaenau in Bloom entries is 30 June, judging is on 4 July and the awards day will be 22 July.

Angling

TWENTY six anglers took part in the Cambrian Angling Association’s competition held at Morwynion Lake on Sunday with 76 fish presented at the weigh in.

The juniors under-10 winner was Kayley Evans with seven fish for 9lbs 13ozs. In second place was Calvin Fazakerley with two at 1-8 and Charlie Williams with one for 1-3 was in third place.

The 11-16 age group winner was Emma Hughes with eight at 12-10 and she was presented with the Sgotwrs nid Llosgwr Cup for the best winner in the junior groups. In second place in her class was Aled Sion with seven at 7-13 and Carwyn Fazakerley was third with four at 4-12.

The senior class winner was Kevin Griffiths with eight at 11-13, Calfyn Williams was second with six at 7-13, and Aldrin Evans third with four at 6-14.

This Friday evening the annual night fishing competition will be held at Morwynion with three different classes competing for the awards.
