Donations

FRIENDS of Cae Baltic have donated £5,124 as a gift to the town council towards the costs of erecting a fence around part of the field and for placing goal posts on it.

The council has confirmed that they have donated £200 to the annual Moelwyn Fell Race.

A KISSING gate suitable for wheelchairs and prams is to replace the large gate on the side of the Cae Manod has been ordered by the Council at a cost of £3,400 and this is to be installed as soon as possible.

Blaenau in Bloom

THE awards ceremony of the 14th year of the Blaenau in Bloom competition will be held this Sunday afternoon at St David’s Church Hall.

As usual there were five classes of house gardens from Small, Large, Containers, Vegetables and Wildlife as well as the Commercial category and hopefully this year a Schools section.

Elected

CLLR Eurwyn Jones has been elected chair of the Ffestiniog Town Council and Glyn Daniels its vice-chair and the two together with Rory Francis, Mel Goch ap Meirion, Mark Thomas, Bedwyr Gwilym, and Annwen Daniels have been elected on the Council’s Committee, its Amenities, Planning, Law and Order, Parking and Transport and Staffing committees with Mel Goch ap Meirion not on the Recources committee with Wil G Roberts also named on some.

The chair will represent the Council on the Community Centre committee with Mel Goch ap Meirion - Ffestiniog Village Hall. Bedwyr Gwilym - Park Partnership; Annwen Daniels - Chamber of Commerce and Tourism; Trawsfynydd Site Stakeholders and Cwmni Bro - Glyn Daniels with Ronwen D Roberts has after been elected with her permission onto all the committees. Schools Board of Governors Maenofferen - Rory Francis; Manod - Mark Thomas, Tanygrisiau - Ronwen D Roberts; Bro Cynfal - No rep at present.

Angling

THE Wales Ladies fly fishing team captained by local Audrey Williams Roberts won a gold medal in a home international competition held on Clywedog Lake ahead of England, Scotland and Ireland.and it has been 12 years since a Wales team won gold medals.

Festival

THE week-long Slate Festival whose theme is Culture Through Industry and aims to celebrate the rich and varied heritage of the area was officially opened by Mici Plwm on Saturday afternoon after a procession down from the quarries arrived at Diffwys Square.

He stated that his relatives had been working at the Oakley Quarry the largest underground slate quarry in the world.

The aim is to bid to gain UNESCO World Heritage Status for the slate landscape of North West Wales and on Saturday the Oakeley Band performed a new fanfare specially composed by the Band’s conductor John Glyn Jones and the percussionist Dewi Ellis Jones and this fanfare will be played in events linked to gain the Heritage Status.

Cllr Iwan Thomas, a Gwynedd Council Cabinet member, stated that using heritage to boost the economy of areas like Blaenau is an excellent idea and thanked the Llechwedd Quarry and the Snowdonia National Park for sponsoring this Festival. The rest of the day there was a Gig Car Gwyllt at the Rugby Club with many bands entertaining and for the rest of the week there will were a variety of events in various venues.
