Remembrance

REV Rowland Barnes officiated at the Remembrance Sunday service at St David’s Church before the procession left to the Memorial Health Centre led by Parade Marshall Gary Williams where another service was conducted by Rev Barnes and there was a reading and tribute to the fallen.

The Standard Bearers were Fred Tanner for the British Legion, Emyr Williams for RNA, Glyn Daniels for Burma Veterans and Iwan Jones for RWF.

The Oakeley Band were in attendance and at 11am their member Ceris Jones sounded the Last Post and after two minutes silence she sounded the Reveille which was followed by the Exhortation in Welsh and English and the Kohima Epitaph and the National Anthems There followed the wreath-laying service by representatives of local organisations and clubs.

From there, a group went for another service and wreath laying at the Rhiwbryfdir War memorial.

At 12.30pm, the bells of St David’s Church could be heard locally as it was the time the First World War ended and this was rung out all over the country.

Tepee

BETWEEN 21 and 30 November, The Last Tepee will be held during the library’s usual opening hours and for adults only, which is a chance to sit and listen to a recording of stories in Welsh.

Gallery

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition by the Blaenau Art Group until 12 December and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Signs

WITH dog owners taking their pets on Cae Baltic where there is a sign banning dogs from the playing field, the council is to get quotes for larger signs on the site and they are also to get a price for name signs for the area playing fields e.g Parc Tanygrisiau.

Blaenau Amateurs FC

THE Blaenau Amateurs FC under 16 side are through to the next round of the North Wales Coast FA Cup after their fine 9-1 away win at Holyhead. The scorers were Wil Gruffydd (three), Gerwyn Williams (two) and one each from Owain Jones Owen, Sion Hughes, Cai and Ifan Jones.

In the Lleyn and Eifionnydd League they had another good 6-0 win over Llanymstumdwy with goals from Gerwyn Williams (three), Osian Davies (two) and Cai Jones.

They take on Pwllheli at Cae Clyd this Saturday with a 10.30am kick off.
