Defibrillator

The town is lucky to have several defibrillators in the area, and now there is another positioned outside the Moelwyn Pharmacy.

It has been funded by means of a collection and a charity event which raised £350.

The defibrillator is to be set up outside the pharmacy on the corner of High Street and Park Square.

After the Welsh charity Calonnau Cymru/Welsh Hearts held a seminar about the importance of the defibrillator in the community, the Moelwyn pharmacist Naeen Anjam aimed to have one, and now he and the staff have organised a free CPR and defibrillator training at the town council office at 6.30pm on 22 January.

If anyone is interested, they can contact the pharmacy on 01766 830437. The Moelwyn staff thank everyone for their support and donations.

Bro Ffestiniog

Archaeology Society

The December talk was by Keith O’Brien on ‘O Fawn i Fango’ – a look at the extraction of slate and minerals in the Trawsfynydd area.

It was a fascinating talk covering gold, manganese, copper, slate and granite.

Keith explained the sites of extraction, with the Prince Edward gold mine proving very interesting, with the link to the wedding ring of Princess Marina.

The Braich Ddu Slate Quarry is still in operation producing slate cladding, lintels etc. Copper was extracted from turf at various places and some of the diggings go back to ancient times.

A large audience was very appreciative of Keith’s deep knowledge on the matter and the excellent accompanying photographs.

The society said the talks are sponsored this year by Huws Gray building supplies.

The next meeting of the society will be this Thursday at the Ganolfan, Blaenau Ffestiniog, at 7pm for 7.30pm.

The talk will be by Richard Williams on Archaeoleg Chwareli Glyndyfrdwy. The talk will be in Welsh with simultaneous English translation.
