Town council
IOLO Tegid of the Welsh Government had a meeting about the damaged bus shelter and crossing by the Wynnes Arms, after the town council was alerted to a potential serious case involving a bus waiting for children to use the crossing and a car coming from behind the bus and driving on.
Discussions also took place regarding the reinstatement of the damaged bus shelter. As these are on the A470 trunk road, any changes and a new bus shelter require the consent of the Welsh Government.
Iolo Tegid agreed to look at whether the zebra crossing could be replaced with a pelican crossing and said he would look into installing an identical bus shelter, but a little to the side of the original one, to make it easier for passengers to get to and from the bus if they are disabled or with a pram.
The town council has then recommended that they accept the information and obtain a quote for a fixed bus shelter.
The council is to ask G L Jones Bethesda whether a new swing seat had been installed at the Tanygrisiau Playing field.
They arranged for a group of local councillors to tidy up the tennis court and remove rubbish to the recycling centre.
The council will contact the person who runs a canoe club in the Porthmadog area asking him to empty the canoe shed at the skate park as it is no longer used for its intended purpose.
As for the Manod playing field, there have been several complaints regarding the condition of the timber frame. The council has decided to take down the equipment for the safety of the children and to get a quote for erecting a new fence and installing tarmac near the kissing gate.
Cllr Mark Thomas put forward a notice of motion before the town council to show that the council supports the social centre.
He proposed that the council would move in to hold their meetings there.
There was a debate on the matter and when it went to a vote it was two for, and two against, with others having declared an interest and had left the meeting.
Chairman Rory Francis voted against the move to the social centre until more information is available on costs and also the views of the local community.
