Planning
THE town council has supported a planning application for the demolition of existing porch, single-storey extension and outbuilding and erection of a new porch, single-storey extension and external decking at Plas Menai, Ffestiniog.
As for the proposed planning application for a Hydro Electric Scheme up to 600KW on Cynfal river comprising intake weir, buried pipeline, turbine house building outflow, buried grid connection vehicular access and construction compounds (revised proposal) on land between Pont yr Afon Gam and Cwm farm, Ffestiniog, the town council has discussed the application and received information that could be crucial to the project.
According to the Copper Mines of Wales book there is an old copper mine on site with the area full of underground mines.
The council proposes that an underground inspection of the area is required to ensure the safety of those working on the scheme and also road safety.
An application for erection of distribution and loading facility at Gwaith Setts at Manod has been permitted.
Sale
THE local library has announced that there is a book sale there until the end of the month.
Clerk
WITH Ann Coxon retiring as the town council clerk in March after nearly 15 years in the post, it has been announced that Zoe Pritchard has been appointed to take over the position.
Bins
WITH the chance of wintry and icy conditions the town council has asked Gwynedd Council to replenish all salt bins in the area.
Gallery
THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts a slate exhibition until 29 February and admission to the gallery is free during the library’s opening hours.
Fields
THE town council debated a list of the work needed to be done to the local playing fields, as well as the skate park and a hole at Oakley Square and said that the work should be done as soon as possible.
Gwynedd Council has asked the town council if they would consider taking over the responsibility for the playgrounds at Pengwndwn and Tai Gelli.
The town council has stated that Gwynedd Council would have to ensure the sites are up to a high standard before they can consider taking over.
They would also like maintenance and cost reports as well as further information on who is responsible for the footpath that runs along the one at Pengwndwn and once their request has been received, the town council will then reconsider the request.
Precept
THE town council is to hold a meeting on Thursday, 23 January, to set the precept for the 2020/21.
Sports
BLAENAU Amateurs FC drew 4-4 at Llanberis and are home to Prestatyn Sports this Saturday.
Bro Ffestiniog XV were beaten 15-12 at Caernarfon.
