THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition of a range of works in mixed media by Catherine Rose and Hannah Hession and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Defibrillator

CLLR Kevin Baldwin has tabled a motion for the next town council meeting calling on them to consider buying and installing a defibrillator to be placed on the outside of the council building with all running costs to be met by the council.

Camera Club

AWARD-WINNING wildlife photographer Alan Price from Pentrefelin gave a humorous and interesting presentation at the Camera Club, showing a wide range of images from macro to telephoto explaining what technique and equipment was used. John Powell Jones thanked the guest speaker.

Tom Dodd was the adjudicator for the club’s recent open print competition with Iona O’Neill placed first and joint second with Rory Trappe, the latter also joint third with Tudur Owen and Steve Jones.

Baskets

THE town council is to ask Gwynedd Council if it is possible to place flower baskets on street lighting columns at both the Diffwys and Rawson Squares.

Advice

A REPRESENTATIVE of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be present at the library on Mondays between 10am and 1pm and ready to discuss any relevant questions one might have.

Fforwm

Baltic

IT has been reported that it is hoped that the new fence around the Cae Baltic field will be completed before the end of March.

The council holds a lease on the entire site and it is hoped that the freehold will be transferred to them from Gwynedd Council during the year.

The council has allocated £3,000 in the precept towards the creation of a cycle track with the rest of the money to be raised by Friends of Cae Baltic.

In the meantime the council is to contact their solicitors asking them to write to the person who has created the illegal parking space on the field to restore the land back to its original condition.

Clwb Cerdded

Festival

THE town council is to sponsor the Cerdd Dant Festival which will be held here in November 2018 with a sum of £1,500 set aside this year and the same total next year.

It was also agreed that the council will sponsor a concert for the sum of £500. The Moelwyn Male Voice Choir has also donated a sum of £1,000 to the festival which will be the prizes for the choirs competition.

Schools

IN a report about Gwynedd school’s rankings, Ysgol Maenofferen was among the only 22 schools which received a green (excellent) ranking.

Among those who were given a yellow (effective) ranking were Ysgol y Moelwyn, Manod, Tanygrisiau and Edmund Prys schools. An amber ranking (in need of improvement) was awarded to Ysgol Bro Cynfal and Ysgol Bro Hedd Wyn.

Cambrian Angling

DAVID Williams presided over the Cambrian Angling Association AGM where he appealed for more younger members to join its committee to safeguard its future.

He also appealed for members to report any fly tipping which is a problem around some of the lakes and one individual has been caught and fined on that issue.

On the Cwmorthin Lake site, the association has been in favourable talks with the Go Below tourist attraction which is based there and they are looking after the building there.

Regarding the Cwmorthin Lake it was reported that little use had been made of the boat which is available there over the past fishing season.

Secretary Geraint Vaughan Jones thanked Dref Werdd for clearing the riversides of the unwanted plants and also thanked the members who had painted the Ffridd Lake hut.

Treasurer Cecil Daniels gave the financial report which though membership numbers were down they did make a profit of £828 and the meeting agreed that the Association kept paying annual fees to WSTAA, Mantell Gwynedd, the Gwynedd Anglers, Fish Legal and the Community Centre. The membership fees for the coming season remain the same.

The officials were all re-elected: Chair, David Williams; vice-chair, Bleddyn Williams; treasurer, Cecil Daniels; secretary, Geraint Vaughan Jones; assistant secretary, Geraint W Williams; press officer, Meirion Ellis.

The committee members are: Mel Goch ap Meirion, Glyn Daniels, J Elwyn and William Ellis, Alwyn Hughes, Adrian, Alfyn, Brian, Elgan, and Peter Jones, Meurig Roberts, Eurwel Thomas and Darren, Vincent and Geraint Williams.

The meeting ended with the chair wishing members the very best, fishing-wise.
