Vintage

THE organisers of a special day in Blaenau Ffestiniog are putting the finishing touches to their plans and are looking forward to looking back.

On Sunday, 30 July, the town is staging its second Vintage 1940s Day and comes after the success of a similar event last year when hundreds of people joined in the fun.

Among a host of attractions there will be a display of 1940s vintage cars and motorbikes, 40s fashions, music and singing and dancing.

Gail Weir, who owns the Bridge Cafe in Blaenau and is the day’s organiser, said: “Everything is coming together very well and we are hoping for another successful and enjoyable day.”

As well as the fun side to the day there is a more serious aspect, to put the town more firmly on the map.

Gail said: “It’s no secret that nearby towns like Betws y Coed and Portmadog can be really busy and buzzing with tourists when Blaenau is quiet. We want to show visitors just what we can offer and attract and welcome more visitors.”

Attractions in addition to the Classic Car of ACN already lined up include Fiona Harrison, Voice in a Million, Ysgol Moelwyn’s Beautiful Voices of Blaenau Ffestinog in the form of Kerri-Ann Ellis and Osian Burrough and the Apollo Band, V40s karaoke, an auction, a Land Army cafe, the U3A ukulele band, and the local Masonic Lodge will be opening its doors for the day.

And there’s a special attraction in store for steam train enthusiasts.

The day gets under way at 10am and finishes around 5pm.
