Fund
Following fund-raising efforts at the rugby club and the RWF Club a fine sum of £850 has been donated to Diabetes UK.
Ellen Mair, Manon and Awel Thomas organised the event and with the help of Mair Kavanagh, Michael Hughes, Glenys and Alwen Jones of the RWF Club they managed to reach the total. They are thankful to all who either donated or assisted in any way.
History
The next meeting of the Bro Ffestiniog History Society will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, 8 February, at the community centre where the guest speaker Bill Jones will give a talk on ‘A Taste of Archaeology’.
Advice
A representative of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be present at the library between 10am and 1pm on Mondays ready to deal with any relevant questions one might have and no appointments are needed to be present.
Co-op
The local Co-op supermarket is to have a facelift during March and the dates of when this will be taking place will be made known nearer the date.
It has already been stated that a small Co-op base will be put on the car park which will have some essential goods on sale until the ongoing work on the main building is completed.
Darts
For the very first time a local darts player has won the Gwynedd Open event held at Llangefni on Sunday.
He is Heber Thomas who defeated last year’s winner Mike Haynes of Cheshire 6-5 in the final after trailing 5-2 at one period of the match.
On the way to the final he beat another Blaenau player Carwyn Williams in the quarter final and for winning the event he was presented with a cash prize and a fine trophy which he will keep for a year.
Angling
David Williams presided over the annual meeting of the Cambrian Angling Association a post he has held for 20 years.
It was stated that a plaque is to be placed at Ffridd Lake to commemorate the association’s late treasurer, Cecil Daniels, who died last year after 24 years in the post.
Last season’s senior membership was again down but the juniors’ total was up which was welcomed.
Taking over the treasurer post is Brian Jones and Darren Williams will take over as secretary as Geraint Vaughan Jones is resigning after seven years.

The chair reminded members to make sure that they do not leave litter around the lakes which has been a problem in the past and for the juniors there will be lessons on fly fishing to be arranged at Ffridd Lake.
