MEMBERS of Cardigan and North Pembrokeshire Amnesty International Group will be holding a vigil outside Cardigan Guildhall on Saturday, 14 October, between 11am and 12.30pm to raise awareness of the plight of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian citizen imprisoned in the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, Iran.
Arrested last year at the airport as she was about to return to the UK, Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on unknown charges.
Her young daughter, Gabriella, who has British citizenship, had her passport confiscated and remains in Iran with grandparents.
Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s husband, Richard, who has not been allowed to see his wife or daughter, has been campaigning tirelessly for her release.
The group, joined by MP Ben Lake, will be gathering signatures on a letter to the UK Government to ask them to continue and prioritise requests for mother and daughter’s release and return to the UK.
