THE speaker at the May meeting was Andrea Vaughan who currently works on the Exercise Referral Team at Gwynedd Council Leisure Centres, Dolgellau, Barmouth and Blaenau Ffestiniog.
The programme provided is to improve the health and well-being of patients referred by a number of organisations including their GP.
The health problems include asthma, diabetes, back problems, heart issues, stroke, dementia and osteo arthritis.
Also as a prevention measure such as help with weight loss, mobility and balance (preventing falls leading to far more serious injuries).
Andrea explained that very small measures need to be taken to improve health, it does not need to be hours spent at the gym.
Walking more not sitting for long periods at a time, for example if sitting down, every 20 minutes get up and move around.
Take the time to have 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week such as brisk walking.
Andrea then gave us a short exercise session on ‘Get up and go’, six exercises everyone can do daily.
Basically she encouraged all regardless of health limitations to move more!
Irene gave the vote of thanks.
Jean won the raffle.
The annual dinner was held at Y Sospan on 11 June, 15 members attended.
Nice food and fellowship was enjoyed by all, thanks to Rachel and staff once again.
They discussed many topics including the recent Flower Festival at St Mary’s Church.
They dedicated their display to the Suffragette movement on this the centenary of women’s suffrage.
The flower theme was purple green and white, the colours of the movement.

They hope to sell to raise money for Action Aid, a charity committed to improving the lives of women and girls who do not enjoy the freedom we have gained through the campaigns of the Suffragette movement.
Five members attended the meeting on 18 June, Jessie opened with the Lord’s prayer.

She made a felted square from scratch, starting with wool, water and decorative additions, all were impressed with the results.

Sandi made the process look easy, but that was due to her excellent talent and eye for colour and design.
