St Mary’s Women’s Fellowship

THE first meeting on 3 October was a craft meeting of members. Ten members attended, Jessie opened with the Lord’s Prayer. Prior to this meeting, the members had discussed what craft ‘talents’ they had, and if they were prepared to make items for the forthcoming coffee morning. Everyone was enthusiastic and generous, with both time and money, bringing items they had made to date. As the meeting was on Armistice Day, some of the members decided to make hand-crafted poppies, both to sell on the day and in advance, all proceeds to go to the Royal British Legion. The members shared ideas, and a particularly interesting idea came from Wendy. On a recent holiday, she had discovered the twiddle muff. A twiddle muff is a hand-knitted or crocheted muff, which has interesting ‘bits and bobs’ attached inside and out. They provide a source of tactile and sensory stimulation, at the same time keeping hands snug and warm. They are invaluable for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, she explained persons with this problem can tear at their skin nails, causing pain and infections. Members concluded the night was both interesting, informative and entertaining. Jessie won the raffle. A coffee morning will be held on Friday, 11 November, 10am to 12 noon with (two minutes’ silence at 11am) at the Free Library Dolgellau. All proceeds to go to various Charities. The next meeting, on 17 October, was again craft based, with a beautiful presentation from Ceri Lloyd Jones.Jessie opened with the Lord’s Prayer, again ten members attended. Ceri brought along a breath-taking display of her many beautiful crafted wares. Ceri discussed her exceptional ideas and how she had created the items, including many that she had won awards for. Ceri obviously enjoyed her crafting, which she has done for many years, but still is keen to learn new crafts.
