FOR the second concert in the 2017-18 series, at 7.30pm in Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor on Friday, 3 November, the club will be welcoming exciting young vocal duo Peter Harris (tenor) and Hamish Brown (piano). Joint winners in March of the 2017 Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform Award, their showcase recital on 14 October at the start of the Oxford Lieder Festival was said to be ‘stunning’. For their concert in Dolgellau (sponsored by OLF) they will be presenting songs by Strauss, Mahler & Gurney as well as Britten’s ‘Winter Words’ (to poems by Thomas Hardy, including the ever-popular ‘Choirmaster’s Burial’).

SEVEN members attended, Jessie opened with the Lord’s Prayer.

Speaker was Susan Wilkinson a Master REIKI practitioner.

She gave an explanation of what Reiki Healing is and claims to do.

Thank you again Susan for an interesting and informative presentation. Jean won the raffle.

At the second meeting of the month, five attended, unfortunately many of the members were ill.

The speaker was Rev Mary Bolt, she gave us an interesting presentation on gardening, a welcome breath of summer given the recent weather.

Mary opened with the Lord’s Prayer.

She presented a beautiful slide/video of her extensive outstanding gardens.

Moving in about 20 years ago, she and George have turned the wild overgrown garden and adjacent field into a wonderland of all year beauty.

She gave advice on the planting and upkeep of plants and flowers.

Mary explained that she gained her love of gardening from her father a keen and proficient gardener; Mary was also keen to answer our questions.

Mary and George open the gardens annually, and for a small charge we too can gain inspiration from their hard work.

The proceeds from this are donated to various cancer charities.

Jessie again gave the vote of thanks.

Thank you again Mary for an informative and inspiring presentation, they will all be keen for the arrival of the seed catalogues!
