Gardening Club

THE February meeting took place on one of the wildest nights of the year. Those brave enough to venture out enjoyed an excellent evening in the company of the photographer, Alan Price of Gateshouse Studio.

Alan has won and been shortlisted for numerous awards and therefore the best person to talk to us about Wildlife Photography in the Garden.

An amazing range of beautiful images were all taken in his own garden. Among these were blue tits on snowdrops, which had been placed on a bird table and concealed crunched up peanuts, a bank vole with a blackberry, a beautiful slow worm (which is not a snake) and a tiger moth, caught in a moth trap on a summer evening and placed for photography before being released.

Among his tips for successful wildlife photography, Alan suggested one should keep it simple, plan the setting carefully and always focus on the eyes of the subject.

Careful and considered observation is also a key together with infinite reserves of patience.

The next meeting will be on 13 March when Katherine Insley from Bala will talk about vintage garden tools.

The annual Spring Show will be held in the Church Hall on Wednesday, 22 March.
