Gardening Club

THE annual summer show was held in the village hall on Wednesday, 15 August.

Despite inclement weather conditions the show was well attended by visitors who enjoyed the impressive display of produce, flowers, photography and craft.

Floral art entries, always of a high standard, were slightly down on previous years, due almost entirely to difficult growing conditions.

The D F Dowsett Shield for the highest number of points in the vegetable and fruit section was won by Emlyn Owens.

The President’s Shield, for the most points in the flowers and pot plants section was won by Karen Hall.

Dinah Pickard won the E H Sergeant Cup in the floral art section.

The most points in the produce and wine section gained Keith Barber the Enid Jones Memorial Cup.

The Jean Vickers Memorial Trophy was shared between Mary Howell and Dorothy Round for their entries in the photography cection.

Dorothy Round also won the Marian Lloyd Salver with the most points in the craft section.

G Lane won the Emlyn Owens Trophy for the best exhibit in the handicraft section.

The Dyffryn and Talybont Cup went to Keith Barber for the most points in the cookery section.

The Guy Lloyd Shield, for the best exhibit in the fruit and vegetable section, was won by R O Edwards.

Karen Hall won the Marjorie Lloyd Rose Bowl for the best exhibit in the flowers and pot plants section.

The plant stall raised £150 for club funds.

Homemade-cakes and the raffle raised around £100 for charities and £80 was raised on the door.

The next meeting will be on 10 September in the church hall.

The subject of speaker Stan Mahom, is Bulbs to Beauty.
