THE president, Jan Cole, welcomed everyone to the June meeting.
Meirion was sung accompanied by Myfanwy on piano. The business meeting would be in two parts to allow for the group to participate in the treasure hunt.
They commenced with news of members, apologies, and birthday cards were given out; they continued the meeting after the treasure hunt.
The members who wanted to walk around Harlech set off with their clues close to hand, and the remaining members who did not want to walk, were given a quiz to keep them entertained.
The walkers returned to join in with everyone for refreshments.
Jan and Jill read out the answers to the quiz and treasure hunt, with the indoor team of Myfanwy, Jan and Stella the winners.
The treasure hunt team winners were Shelia and Ann. Edwina thanked Jan and Jill for all their hard work in arranging the quiz and treasure hunt.
Continuing with the business meeting the minutes were read and duly accepted as correct.
The county letter was read out with a special mention to two forthcoming events, the Healthy Living on 27 June, 2pm at Llanelltyd Village Hall to include an afternoon playing boccia, which is similar to bowls, and suitable for all abilities, as it can be played sitting down or standing up.
And the treasure hunt on 17 July in Barmouth, starting at 6.30pm from the car park opposite the Dragon Theatre, to round off the evening they will have a fish and chip supper.
Jan informed members that Debbie and Sue Wager would now be in charge of the Facebook page.
Jan Spicer gave out information on the Horticultural Show taking place in Harlech on 24 August.
Edwina also gave out information of the forthcoming Artro group meeting to take place on 20 June to discuss arrangements for the County Show, which will take place in Harlech on 28 August.
The next meeting will be on 10 July, at 7pm in the memorial hall, a talk will be given on ‘A Visit to India’, and visitors are welcome to join.
Community Council
THE chairman welcomed Arfon Hughes and Vicky Kelly to the meeting to discuss the latest regarding housing in Harlech.
Copies of a report that had been prepared by them showing a Housing Need Survey in the area was discussed and it was made known that this report will be active for the next five years.
It was agreed to send a letter to Gr?p Cynefin, CCG and Snowdonia National Park stating that this council supports any housing development in the area because of the dire need that is needed here.
The chairman extended the council’s congratulations to Cllr Elfyn Anwyl on being appointed assistant headteacher at Ysgol Ardudwy and wished him well in the future.
The chairman also extended the council’s congratulations to Cllr Edwina Evans on been elected vice-chair of the Gwynedd and Anglesey WI Federation.
Discussing public toilets by the castle, the clerk reported that she had received a further email from Gwynedd Council stating that matter were moving ahead and they were hoping that the final version of the Lease Heads of Terms will be ready next week and then they will be able to transfer the asset to Harlech Community Council sometime this month.
The clerk reported that Gwynedd Council had asked for a copy of the council’s insurance policy and that she had sent it to them.
The council was told that Phil Griffiths had agreed to add these toilets to his list of toilets that he cleans and the community council agreed to pay him the same terms as Gwynedd Council do and also ask if they have got a contract template that this council could use.
The clerk reported that she had received a complaint that a child had fallen into some dog mess on King George V football field and also concern had been voiced that the gates along the road side were not being shut.
Concern was voiced that this had happened on the football field although there are ‘no dogs’ signs on the gates and also that the gates were being left open and it was agreed to keep an eye on the situation.
The council supported two planning applications.
One to replace a sundeck, erect a double garage and make alterations to the annex at Bryn Gwylan, Ffordd Uchaf and another to convert a retail unit on the ground floor of London House into a tattoo parlour.
