Community council

THE community council meetingwas held at the old library at 7.30pm on 2 December.

The minutes of the meeting held on 4 November were found to be correct.

No member declared an interest on any matter.

It was made known that the Harlech Christmas lights switch-on evening held on 30 November had been a huge success with many people attending. It was made known that some were asking where the decorations that used to be around the town were and the chairman agreed to ask Geraint Williams with regard to this matter.

On behalf of the council, the chairman thanked Geraint Williams and everyone else who had been busy preparing for this night.

Cllr Freya Bentham reported that she had met with Carol Williams from the Post Office and that they had earmarked locations that would be suitable to hold a Post Office on a Wednesday and Thursday morning. She hoped that this would be in place as soon as possible.

Planning: Structural refurbishment including installation of external cladding – 13, 15 and 18 Y Waun, Harlech (NP5/61/613A) support this application.

Change of use from D2 (assembly and leisure) to B1, B2 and B8 (buisness, general industrial, storage or disbribution) including external alterations to form new access doors and windows (Former Sports Centre, Coleg Harlech, Harlech (NP5/61/633) - support this application.

Application for financial assistance: Ardudwy Partnership - £250.

The community council received a letter from Gwynedd Council’s highways department asking if the community council would have an interest and be willing to take responsibilty in principal for the play area that is in their area (Y Waun playing field) or know of any other groups that would be willing to do this.

If there is interest, further discussions will be held to develop the best way to work together and discuss the options i.e. transfer or work in partnership. This has to be done because of the cuts that face Gwynedd Council and the cost of providing local services is being cut around £12m during 2019/20 and possibly £16m in 2020/21.

It was agreed that the community council had an interest and were willing to take responsibility in principle for the playing field.

Concern was voiced that the emergency services were not able to gain access onto the beach because of the size of the sand dunes. Cllr Freya Bentham agreed to contact the maritime officer once again.

Great concern was voiced amongst the members on hearing that a member of the public had been posting comments on social media about the council and also about a member. It was agreed that the council should strongly state that they do not tolerate this kind of behaviour and, if this continues, will not have any choice but to take the matter further.

It was made known that some residents are asking if it would be possible to have the toilets by the Queens open throughout the year. Cllr Freya Bentham agreed to contact Gwynedd Council.
