THE November meeting, included an AGM. Christine Hemsley welcomed all members, with a special welcome to Meinir Lloyd Jones, the WI advisor overseeing the AGM meeting which took place after the usual business.
It was explained that as there are more members wishing to be on the committee than are needed there would be a ballot held to elect members for the 2017/2018 committee.
Two tellers were welcomed, Gwenfair Lloyd Hughes from Penrhyndeudraeth and Christine Freeman from Llanfair who would count the votes.
Apologies from members unable to attend were read out, as was news of members.
Christine informed everyone that Stella Calvert was celebrating her 60 years as a member of Harlech WI, a wonderful achievement and she was presented with flowers, gift vouchers and a congratulations card signed by members.
November birthday cards were distributed, minutes of the last meeting were read and signed as correct, also the County Letter where items of interest were noted. Information was also given about the Christmas event on 9 December in Bala.
The treasurer then gave a brief report on finances and informed members about Great Place Lottery.
It is a Heritage Lottery bid to identify Harlech as a ‘Great Place’.
The project will be titled ‘The Other Harlech’, a sort of extension to the work members undertook in preparation for their book 100 facts about Harlech. It will be a three-year project with many partners.
The focus of the project is heritage, arts and culture, with a view to unite the community and make Harlech a more interesting place to live and visit. More information will follow.
The next dining club will be on 29 November in Dolgellau, the Christmas meeting will be on 13 December in the Cemlyn. A visit to a Laura Ashley exhibition has been arranged for 22 November. The theme of the next Craft Club is Christmas cup cakes.
In the AGM, Christine, who was stepping down as president, thanked the committee, fellow officers and members for their support over the past three years.
Jan Cole was warmly welcomed as the new president and the results of the ballot for committee members read out.
Harlech WI would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. They hope to see some new faces at their meetings next year, the first one on 10 January.
