Bridge Club

Another good evening at Lampeter with the top positions going to: 1 Keith Bellamy and Dai Hayes, 62 per cent; 2 Andrew Phillips and John Evans, 60 per cent; 3 George Kenchington and Nigel Symmons- Jones, 57 per cent.

An interesting hand turned up.

My partner is North and opens 1 No Trump, showing a flat hand with 12-14 points.

My right hand opponent overcalls 2 spades.

I have: Spades – 4; Hearts – Q ,10, 9, 8, 6, 5, 4, 2; Diamonds – 8, 5; Clubs – 9, 6.It certainly looks as if East West have four spades on.

Will they bid it? I think they will. I can afford to lose 400 and show a gain.

So I just bid four Hearts.

Not a good decision on the night.

Other pairs were in 3 spades + 1, nobody bid game in spades.

So my minus 400 turned out to be bottom score! You can’t win them all

Go to Hafan Deg Retirement Home on a Tuesday evening at 6.40pm for a good game of bridge.

Learners and visitors always welcome.
