Ramblers
THIS week’s walk will be from Manorbier to Tenby along the coastal path taking the train from Carmarthen.
The walk is a moderate eight miles taking about four hours with breaks with time for fish and chips before the train home.
Ramblers Cymru are celebrating the seven years of the Wales Coast Path with a seven day walking festival along the 870-mile route from Queensferry to Chepstow.
Their contribution to events on Saturday, 11 May was one of four walks from Cwmtydu, with the route going inland to New Quay and back along the coastal path.
On Saturday, 27 April, with Storm Hannah having passed over towards the east, one group enjoyed a walk in the locality of Coedybryn near Rhydlewis.
The other group on a weekend’s walking on the Owain Glynd?r Way at Llandrindod Wells, had to postpone the day’s intended section to Llanbadarn Fynydd due to the weather conditions.
Happily, Sunday was a good walking day and the section from there to Bwlchysarnau, passing through Abbey Cwm Hir, was completed.
For those who prefer short leisurely strolls we are starting a new monthly walk on a Tuesday.
Further details of all walks including our Lonc a Clonc amble rambles are available from James Williams (01570 480041) or request a walk programme leaflet which are also available in Creative Cove.
Walkers are Welcome
THE steering group for the next Walkers are Welcome meeting will be on 20 May.
Individuals and representatives from local groups who have an interest in gaining Walkers are Welcome status for the community are invited along as they formulate their own unique proposals to gain the award.
Simply put, Walkers are Welcome is accreditation for small towns and villages with something special to offer to walkers.
Obtaining the award brings a number of benefits to the local economy with the message that it is a good place for visitors to come to enjoy the outdoors and it also benefits those who live in the community.
It is local community-led scheme and Lampeter is set to join the 19 towns accredited in Wales and there are towns all over the UK who have gained and maintained Walkers are Welcome status.
Go along and share your ideas with others at this opportunistic and exciting time for the town and its district. Phone Kay (01570 480041) and visit the Walkers are Welcome website for more information to inspire you.
