THE latest community news from Lampeter
Cancer services
THE first-ever cross-denominational church service in Wales for those affected by cancer will be held at St Peter’s Church, on Sunday, 22 October.
The bilingual service will have input from many of the different churches in Lampeter, support from many of the churches regionally and music from renowned harpist Georgina Cornock-Evans.
Pupils from Ysgol Bro Pedr will also be singing and reading the winning entries of a poetry competition specifically set-up for the event.
The event will be backed by Pause for Hope - the charity set up in 1999 by Prof Raymund Donnelly to bring hope and strength through prayer and sharing experiences.
Organiser Steven Holmes, of Ffarmers, whose wife Jane was diagnosed with lung cancer despite never having smoked, said: “Almost all of us have been affected in some way by cancer - as a survivor, carer, family or friend, medical professional or even just worried about getting cancer. I have also seen that there are so many in our rural communities here in West Wales that have been affected but feel cut off, or are lonely. With Lampeter being the historical home of theological teaching in Wales at the university and also at the centre of a very geographically spread and rural environment, I thought that setting up the first Pause for Hope service in Wales in this location would be ideal. We are spreading the word through word of mouth, church newsletters, local magazines and social media.”
