THE latest community news from Llanbadarn
St Padarn’s
REMEMBRANCE Sunday morning was not only showery but notably cold and breezy; a fact which probably impacted on the attendance at the United Bilingual Service of Remembrance at 10am.
The congregation was greeted by the sound of all 10 of St Padarn’s bells being rung half muffled.
The service itself was led by the vicar, Canon Andrew Loat, and the Commemoration and Roll was read by Cllr Martin Davies, chairman of Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council.
Immediately afterwards, and at a very poignant moment in the service, the church choir, conducted by Darryl Walters and with Ian Rees accompanying on the organ, sang the very appropriate and moving four-part anthem For the Fallen by Malcolm Archer.
The words of this are one of the verses of Laurence Binyon’s poem of the same name published in The Times in September 1914.
After the service, choir, clergy and congregation proceeded to the war memorial in the village square where a further short service as well as a two-minute silence.
The Last Post and Revelle were sounded by bugler Katie John after which wreaths were laid.
The church’s year is rapidly coming to an end and Sunday, 19 November, is the 23rd Sunday after Trinity and the third Sunday of the Kingdom.
Services will be: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 Red Book Setting; 10am, Boreol Weddi; and 11.15am, Sung Mattins.
All are warmly welcome to the services.
