St Padarn’s

A SERIES of events are taking place throughout the month of April in St Padarn’s Church to celebrate the 1,500th Anniversary of the arrival of St Padarn in Ceredigion. These have been organised by a working group of The Catholic Parish of Aberystwyth, working with St Padarn’s. This coming Saturday, 1 April, from 2pm to 5pm in St Padarn’s, there will be five short talks arranged by The University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies (CAWCS). The speakers will be: Gerald Morgan, Historian, teacher and author (talk in Welsh with simultaneous translation); Professor Paul Russell, Professor in the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, University of Cambridge; Dr David Parsons, Senior Fellow, Place-Names of Wales Project, CAWCS; Dr Martin Crampin, Research Fellow, The Cult of Saints in Wales Project, CAWCS; and Peter Lord, Art Historian and designer of St Padarn’s church’s ‘Capel y Dre’ which was constructed in the 1980s to his designs. Admission is free and a warm welcome is extended to all.The St Padarn’s Hospitality Committee will be serving refreshments in Llanbadarn Church Hall during the afternoon. This first event coincides with the Stories of the Saints Exhibition which is being held at the National Library, and interesting displays about the exhibition can now be seen in church.

Services

NEXT Sunday, 2 April, is the fifth Sunday in Lent, and the second Sunday before Easter. It is known as Passion Sunday when the passion and sufferings of Christ are recounted. Services will be: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 Red Book setting; 10am, Boreol Weddi; and 11.15am Choral Matins. On Wednesday, 5 April, there will be a bilingual celebration of Holy Communion in the Lady Chapel at 10am.
