St Padarn’s
MEMBERS of the St Padarn’s Hospitality and Fundraising Committee went to great lengths to ensure that the Church Hall was well laid out and suitably decorated for the festive coffee morning, and the display of seasonal goods on offer from the Church shop was particularly impressive.
As a result, including the takings from the shop, a total of nearly £475 was raised for church funds.
Last Sunday’s Services
The Advent of the Bro Padarn Ministry area in North Ceredigion is having a considerable impact on the services in the 16 churches in the grouping and on Advent Sunday, the congregation at the 11.15am Matins service welcome Syd Smith from Llangorwen to the service.
Syd is a very active member of Llangorwen Church and is currently very near to the end of his training to be A Worship Leader there.
Advent Sunday saw him taking a service in another church in the Ministry Area for the first time under the watchful eye of the Vicar, the Rev Andrew Loat.
On Advent Sunday afternoon the Church Choir of 16 voices, conducted by Darryl Walters and accompanied by Daniel Smith led a traditional service of Advent Carols and Readings.
The service began with the choir processing in silence through the church and starting the service from the West End of the Church by singing Palestrina’s very beautiful Matins Responsary after which the choir returned to the choir stalls singing the Advent Carol O Come O Come Emmanuel.
A very well received service was brought to an end with Darryl Walters playing as the concluding Voluntary, Bach’s Wachet Auf.
Bell Ringing On Advent Sunday morning two visiting ringers from Maidstone resulted in no less than 14 ringers being in the tower for 9.30am service ringing and all 10 bells being rung.
Eight bells were also rung for the Advent Carol Service in the afternoon.

Next Sunday, 10 December, is the second Sunday in Advent and services will be: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 Red Book Setting; 10am, Cymun Bendigaid and 11.15am, Choral Eucharist.
