Community council

THE Community Council is pleased that the relaunch of a junior football team in the village will result in regular use of the pitch again. But the field will now need to be mowed more frequently.

Some maintenance and repair work will also be carried out on the play equipment in the nearby playground.

There were no new developments to report regarding the proposed Airfield access road. The work to replace the footbridge over the Afon Artro at Pentre Gwynfryn will be started the last week in March.

The work will be carried out by G H James Cyf of Gellilydan. Hopefully the bridge will be in place by the Easter weekend and the circular route past Tyddyn Pandy Quarry and Dolmygliw to Pentre Gwynfryn can be used again.

This walk is very popular with both visitors and locals alike.

The Llwybrau Llanbedr Paths subcommittee is progressing work to establish information boards in and around the village.

The test piece notice board was seen at the council meeting and was approved.

A grant of £250 was gratefully received from the Beer Festival towards purchasing a wooden bench to be placed at the centre of the village as part of the Llwybrau Llanbedr Paths project. The wooden sculpture currently located at this point will be relocated –to the river bank footpath by Plas Newydd if this is practicable.

The temporary O2 mast at Talwrn Bach has now been switched back on, but can only remain in use until 31 October at which point the planning permission with Snowdonia National Park Authority will have expired. In order to help with any negotiations for a new site it is vital that people send letters to Liz Saville Robers MP stating the importance of this service for the area, especially with Llanbedr being situated in a hollow.

The mast is also in close proximity to the coastal path, Shell Island and the Rhinogydd mountain range. There is a need for reception to contact the emergency services and to provide a service to phone and broadband users especially during the high season influx of thousands of tourists to the area served by the phone. These visitors are probably acquainted with high speed broadband and phone signals.

Next council meeting will be on 4 April.

Digital connection

A NEW computer has been provided by Gwynedd Council’s Digital Gwynedd service in Llanbedr village hall to provide those with no digital connection with the opportunity to access to public services and other resources that can only be obtained via the web.

The system can also be used to keep in contact with family and friends or for college or school work. The equipment is available for free when the hall is in use (from 9am till 3pm each school day and in the evening from Sunday night to Thursday night (these times could change).

For those who need an introduction to the system there will be someone on site in the Village Hall to help between 10am and noon on Fridays.

In addition, volunteers from Llanbedr are available to provide one-to-one training to anyone who needs it. To arrange such training or for further information please contact Iddon Hall on 01341 241464 or 07966 406497.
