THE president, Eirwen James, welcomed members to the second meeting of the year.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed, and apologies were noted.

Names were taken of those interested in attending the National Wales Conference in Newport, Gwent.

The book quiz, which will be held in March, was also mentioned.

The 50th anniversary dinner was also discussed, with alternative dates being sorted.

It was finally agreed that it would be held on either 1 or 15 February depending on the hotel’s availability.

Once the business was concluded, Linnie Castlemaine of the Pantglas Centre brightened members up with a lively yoga session.

Bethan Evans gave the vote of thanks for the enjoyable gentle exercise regime and over a cuppa, Linnie was invited to judge the competition for the pair of warm gloves. The raffle was then drawn.

The next meeting is entitled 50 Years On.

Members have been invited to bring photos of themselves both as infants and in 1969, and to give a brief account of what was happening in their lives at that time.

This will be held on Wednesday, 23 January, in the Ganolfan at 7.30pm.

THE club’s first meeting of the new year held at the New Inn on Thursday, 10 January, was the AGM.

The chairman, Margaret Howells, welcomed everyone to the meeting and extended a warm welcome to Ann Jones, vice-chairman of the Women’s Institute National Board of Trustees.

Ann had agreed to join the meeting to organise the election of the new committee.

Minutes secretary May Turnell read the minutes of the previous AGM held in January 2018 and these were signed as a correct record.

Copies of the 2018 audited accounts were circulated and various points highlighted by the treasurer.

Fundraising was discussed and Ann gave members some very helpful contacts to apply for grant funding.

Margaret gave a short chairman’s report on the events of the past year and thanked all her officers for their support over this time and Ann for taking the time to attend.

Margaret was persuaded to continue in the post of chairman for another year, as was treasurer Angela Payne, who will also take on the role of secretary.

Lloyd Jones was happy to continue as vice-chairman and May Turnell as minutes secretary.

Emma Williams agreed to continue organising trips, but will be given support by other members of the committee.

In her absence, Ann Hellier will, when well enough, continue assisting with the refreshments, but in the meantime other members volunteered to help.

Angela Payne will continue to write the press reports for the Cambrian News.

Lloyd gave the vote of thanks to Ann and she was presented with a bowl of spring flowers as a token of the group’s appreciation.

The next meeting, which will be held at the New Inn, is on Thursday, 14 February, when the speakers will be Hannah and Phoebe Edwards who will give a talk on their visit to America.

On 14 March, the monthly club meeting will be held in the New Inn at lunchtime when Yvonne will once again spoil members with her delicious cawl.
