PRESIDENT Anne Morgan opened the meeting at Tysul Hall on Thursday, 3 October, and welcomed members.
Following the reading of minutes and usual business, congratulations were given to Lone Howell, Judith Roberts and Lesley Cutler who won several prizes at the Llandysul Show in September.
The talk and demonstration for the evening was given by Gwawr Davies. She started by telling them about her life and family, how after retiring from her work as a teacher at Bryn Saron school, they moved to Aberaeron.
It was here that her fascination with driftwood started whilst enjoying frequent walks along the Ceredigion coast and beaches.
Gradually, Gwawr started experimenting with the driftwood to see what she could make with it. This gained interest from friends and soon, what started as dabbling in a small shed, became a productive hobby making beautiful objects such as lamp holders, picture frames from the driftwood.
She now displays and sells her work at craft shows and in Elephants and Bananas in Aberaeron.
The vote of thanks was given by Yvonne Lewis.
The competition for the night was: ‘An Interesting Piece of Wood’ and 1st prize went to Daphne Jones.
Members were reminded of various upcoming events including: The group meeting, to be held at Tysul Hall on Friday, 25 October, at 7pm.
